Radar Observations of Near-earth
نویسنده
چکیده
Much useful information about physical and dynamical properties can be obtained from radar observations of near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) that come within reach of 1 Resolution of echoes in Doppler frequency and/or time groundbased radar telescopes . delay can be used to synthesize 1-D or 2-D images that show a target’s size, shape and rotation. Disc-integrated measurements also have value, because the wavelengths of NEA radar systems (3.5 or 13 cm) provide sensitivity to near-surface bulk density and structure larger than a few centimeters, and because metal, which is much more abundant in iron/stony-iron meteorites than chondrites, influences radar reflectivity dramatically y.

Retrieving Three Dimensional Displacements of InSAR Through Regularized Least Squares Variance Component Estimation
Measuring the 3D displacement fields provide essential information regarding the Earth crust interaction and the mantle rheology. The interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) has an appropriate capability in revealing the displacements of the Earth’s crust. Although, it measures the real 3D displacements in the line of sight (LOS) direction. The 3D displacement vectors can be retrieved ...
متن کاملPhysical characterisation of near-Earth asteroid (1620) Geographos: reconciling radar and thermal-infrared observations
Context. The Yarkovsky (orbital drift) and YORP (spin state change) effects play important roles in the dynamical and physical evolution of asteroids. Thermophysical modelling of these observed effects, and of thermal-infrared observations, allows a detailed physical characterisation of an individual asteroid to be performed. Aims. We perform a detailed physical characterisation of near-Earth a...
متن کاملAsteroid 1566 Icarus’sSize, Shape, Orbit, and Yarkovsky Drift from Radar Observations
Near-Earth asteroid (NEA) 1566 Icarus ( = a 1.08 au, e=0.83, = i 22 .8) made a close approach to Earth in 2015 June at 22 lunar distances (LD). Its detection during the 1968 approach (16 LD) was the first in the history of asteroid radar astronomy. A subsequent approach in 1996 (40 LD) did not yield radar images. We describe analyses of our 2015 radar observations of Icarus obtained at the ...
متن کامل35. Advances in Planetary Radar Astronomy
During an era when observations from spacecraft have produced the great majority of new information about the solar system, observations of solar-system bodies from the Earth, using high-powered radar systems, have produced some remarkable results. These include the discovery of condensed volatiles, most likely water ice, at the poles of Mercury; the high-resolution imaging of main-belt and nea...
متن کاملA Review of the Three-dimensional Field Displacement Retrieval Methods Using Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar Observations (InSAR) With Emphasis on the Precision of Each of these Methods
Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology provides a useful tool for quantitatively measuring the deformation of the earth, influenced by natural factors (earthquake, subsidence, and landslide) and human factors (construction of structures, drilling, and the overexploitation of underground water aquifers). In this context, time-series analysis of radar images allows the monito...
